Search Engine Friendly URLs

and people friendly too !!

So what does "Search Engine Friendly URL" mean anyway? And it is important?

The URL of a web page is basically the address of the page in the browser window. For example the URL of this page shown in the address bar is http://www.yoursite.net.au/friendly-url

At YourSite we don't use "?" or "&" in any of our website URLs. We also use actual category names in the product catalog pages. This ensures that a YourSite web site is crawlable by a search engine and that all pages are indexed correctly.

Friendly URL's are important from a user point of view as well. Think about it... if you googled "meccano" and you had a choice between clicking on a link to www.stanbridges.com.au/index.cfm?catid=1908 or www.stanbridges.com.au/shop.Meccano which one would you click on?

It also makes it easier for people to link back to your website which is another important factor in search engine rankings.
